At Lizzy’s, we’re honored to help our customers create pieces that hold not just beauty, but meaning — heirlooms that tell stories of love, family, and connection. When Justine and Derrick came to us, they carried two remarkable rings, each representing generations of love. What unfolded was a story that blended the past and present into something entirely their own.
Here’s what Justine shared with us:
Before my great-grandfather passed away, he gave my mom my great-grandmother Marie’s wedding ring — the same one they had redesigned exactly how she wanted for their 50th wedding anniversary. It was a symbol of a lifetime of love and commitment, and when my husband proposed with it on November 12, 2023, at Suncadia Resort, it felt like the next chapter of that same love story. At first, I wasn’t sure what to do — part of me wanted to preserve the ring exactly as it was, but another part of me wanted to weave in something new, something that reflected our own story.

Shortly after Derrick and I got engaged, his father gave us a deeply meaningful gift — his late mother’s wedding ring. A solitaire diamond framed by two intricate cluster bands, it’s a stunning piece, and we were truly honored by the gesture. We decided to pass along the solitaire from his mother’s ring to my brother-in-law, and with Lizzy’s Jewelry, began designing something truly our own. Using the solitaire from my great-grandmother’s ring, Lizzy’s helped us create a custom piece — a fresh band with six smaller diamonds from her original ring set into the new design. They also helped me choose a custom band that complements my late mother-in-law’s cluster bands perfectly.
I chose not to solder the bands together so I can mix, match, and stack them — wearing one, two, or all three depending on the day. It feels like a tangible way to carry both women and their legacies of love — with me, always.
Kathi and Ellie at Lizzy’s were amazing through it all. From my late-night texts and “what if we tried this?” moments, to helping Derrick pick out his band (which he’ll admit he wears less often than the silicone one Kathi gifted him) — they made the entire process feel so special. We were married on March 15, 2024, on Maui. The day could not have been more perfect — surrounded by love, legacy, and a little sparkle from the generations that came before us.

Hearing stories like Justine and Derrick’s reminds us why we love what we do. Every heirloom we help reimagine carries generations of emotion — love, memories, and new beginnings. Thank you, Justine and Derrick, for letting us be part of your story!
